England vs West Indies, ODI and T20 tour: Full schedule and fixtures

England’s disastrous World Cup campaign is finally over, but Matthew Mott’s men will have another test of their white-ball credentials as they travel to the West Indies for a limited-overs tour. 

The West Indies did not qualify for this year’s World Cup, but this gives England a chance to bounce back after crashing out of the tournament with one win in their first six games. 

England will take on the home side in three one-day internationals and then five Twenty20 internationals over the course of three weeks in December. 

It will be the first time England have played the West Indies in ODIs in more than four years. 

When is it?

England’s limited-overs tour of the West Indies runs from Sunday December 3 until Thursday December 21. There are no warm-up games so England go straight into the action against the hosts.

Jos Buttler has been confirmed as captain of both ODI and T20 squads for the twin series after England’s managing director of the men’s teams insisted the blame for their dismal performance at the World Cup was entirely his. “I made the mistake of thinking that actually it will be all right when we get there and that’s not been the case,” he said. “We made the assumption that even without playing lots of 50-over cricket, that this is such a good team that it will just slip into old habits and we’ll be able to go out there and win.”

Announcing the squads for both legs of the tour, Key also exonerated the head coach Matthew Mott and backed the T20 World Cup winner to defend that title in the Caribbean and United States next summer. “It’s very hard for me to be critical of Jos Buttler and Matthew Mott when I’m the one who every single time the decision has been made for whether or not we focus on 50-over cricket, Test cricket or T20, I’ve always chosen Test cricket,” he said. So I hold myself accountable more than anyone else for what’s gone wrong on this.” 

Those involved in this World Cup and the five-Test series in India starting in January, such as Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Mark Wood and Ben Stokes, were all rested but some mainstays of Brendon McCullum’s red-ball side, who will tour India in the new year, now get the chance to stake their claims to become regular multi-format internationals.
